At two o’clock in the morning, Terry Seville receives a panicked phone call from his old high-school friend, Craig Blackshear. It’s been awhile since they last spoke and their lives have gone in very different directions.
Craig sweats it out humping boxes for a nearby factory. His only enjoyment comes from dating an 18-year-old high school angel named Ellen. Terry is the fashion columnist at the New Essex Beagle and takes empowerment classes with his fiancée, Jane. Tonight, something awful has happened and Craig believes Terry is the only one that can help. Craig had taken Ellen out on a date to apologize for a fight they’d had. Just as the signs of forgiveness are appearing, disaster strikes in the form of Zelda Sparks. Zelda, a woman so smoking hot she literally burns the film she’s shot on, enters the bar and all hell breaks loose.
Craig and Zelda dated back in high school. Since then, she has been a recurring plague. Craig is determined not to allow Zelda to destroy his current relationship with Ellen. Regardless of his desires, Zelda always finds new ways to humiliate Craig. This time, she vanishes with Ellen.
In one night, Craig and Terry will have to face their demons and realize exactly what has changed…and what they haven’t left behind. Who’s lying? Who’s telling the truth? Whose face will appear the next morning in the obituary column of the New Essex Beagle?
Barstool Words is a hysterical, raw, and rugged journey into a small town and the people that populate it. It is a story about the sexual spiderwebs we weave for ourselves in our quest to find love and companionship. It is about finding the truth underneath the words.
